30 MarÂ鶹´«Ã½Ó³» MODELLING PROGRAMME LINK-UP WITH MODA¡¯S YOUNG MODELS COMPETITION (MYMC)
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 March 2007 - Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»¡¯s Department of Fashion, which runs a modelling programme, organised a talk-cum-fashion show at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Campus in Cheras on 30 March 2007, in collaboration with the Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA).
The event, launched by Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»¡¯s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Chin Peng Kit, was part of MODA¡¯s Young Model Competition (MYMC).
According to Chin, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» is the training ground for students who want a good foundation for a career in the fashion industry.
¡°We not only provide students with modelling programmes, but soon we will be starting our fashion design and communication degree programme, providing the students with a holistic understanding and knowledge of the fashion industry,¡± he said.
President of MODA, Gillian Hung, who is a veteran in the fashion industry herself for over 20 years, was on hand to speak about the fashion industry.
She advised students to take fashion as a career, not a hobby. ¡°The fashion industry needs students who understand that the fashion industry is not just about clothes and models, but there is a need for aspiring designers to have knowledge ranging from the manufacturing of textile to the retailing of fashion,¡± she said.
The event also had Norma Norell who, in her capacity as President of Elite Model Management, spoke on how models work hand-in-hand with the fashion industry.
Her organisation is involved in finding new talents to walk the catwalks of various international fashion shows around Southeast Asia. The audience was also treated to a fashion show by both the students from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»¡¯s Modelling Programme and professional models from Elite Model Management during the event.
A number of students also signed-up for the MYMC to take their first step towards realising their dream of becoming the next Young Malaysian Model for 2007.
