Kuala Lumpur, 10 March, 2011 - Students at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University¡¯s A-Level Academy achieved new heights of excellence, as 45 of them received straight A¡¯s. 16 of them earned straight A* for all three subjects they had taken, a higher grade awarded to students who scored over 90 percent in all modular units. One of them received four A¡¯s out of four subjects, while yet another scored full marks, a 600/600 for biology. The Academy also recorded a 99% passing rate, a 3% jump from last year¡¯s results.
Tay Siow Chia, who achieved perfect scores for her biology subject, is ecstatic after finding out her results. ¡°I am really pleasantly surprised with my results, as I never expected to have A* scores.¡± The 18-year-old is already planning to apply to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University to continue her studies in Pharmacy for the next July intake. Close friends, Cheah Cui Yee and Kuan Wai Chee are also planning to do the same. Both scored 3 A*, and hope to join Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University¡¯s prestigious Pharmacy degree programme.
Tang Lik Xian, who scored straight A¡¯s for all his four subjects, is also ecstatic. ¡°I am extremely happy, and hope that with these results I can apply for a local Medical programme. Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University is definitely on my list of consideration,¡± he says. He also added that the A-Levels programme at the University was wonderful, with a very good and specific syllabus. ¡°The lecturers are also extremely nice and helpful, giving us guidance whenever we need it.¡±
Tang advises anyone who is planning to join the A-levels programme to study at least a couple of hours every day. His peer, Tan Jef Wayne concurs. ¡°The A-Levels programme is certainly not easy, one needs to constantly study to keep everything fresh. But that doesn¡¯t mean you can¡¯t enjoy life as well. Study smart as well as hard,¡± he says.
The current batch of students also includes several JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam) scholars who will also be continuing their studies at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University. One of them, Shalini Nair a/p Krishnan is extremely happy to find out she received 3A* out of her three subjects. ¡°It¡¯s very overwhelming to come to this after being at the University for one and a half years. Lecturers here have definitely helped a lot through their good guidance. They¡¯ve also provided a lot of good resources which have helped us understand better.¡± Shalini will be at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University for the next five years, as she is joining the University¡¯s Doctor in Medicine programme.
According to Dr Nalina a/p Thurairajah, Deputy Head and Senior Lecturer at the University¡¯s A-Level Academy, most of the students are planning to continue their studies at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University. ¡°They will be applying for the University¡¯s next intake in July. I hope the students will continue to study hard, as nothing in life comes easy. I hope to see all of them in a few years to come as first class honours students when they graduate with their degree.¡±
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» University¡¯s A-Levels students are certainly an industrious and studious lot, having recently also won the two out of four Malaysian spots available for an all-expense paid trip to the United Kingdom to attend the University of Bath International Science Summer School in July.
